Summer of solidarity.

Welcome to the Solidarity Hub, a new project powered by Jobs With Justice.

As summer begins to heat up, so does solidarity! Hundreds of thousands of workers are rising up from behind coffee bars, school desks, delivery trucks, and assembly lines and demanding what they are owed.

Just a few of the many worker actions we’ve seen so far in 2023:

  • Over 200 Starbucks stores have unionized (support Starbucks Workers United in bargaining their first contracts here.)

  • 11,5000 Writers Guild members launched a historic (currently ongoing) strike on May 2nd, 2023

  • 30,000 Los Angeles school custodians, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, and other support staff went on a three-day strike for better working conditions. And won!

  • Workers at tech giants like Apple & Google are voting to unionize at unprecedented rates.

Most recently, 340,000 UPS Teamsters voted to authorize a national strike on August 1 if their demands aren’t met, and 150,000 United Auto Workers members are gearing up for a contract fight with the Big Three (Ford, Stellantis, GM). These fights (and others!) will impact generations of workers for years to come – not only setting standards in the logistics and auto industries but also dramatically shifting industries like the electrical vehicle and tech sectors.

The lack of thriving wages, dignity, and basic health & safety protocols has created a boiling point. In response, workers are rising up against corrupt employers and greed.

These workers will win with support from fellow workers like you.

We know that the trend of retaliation against workers who organize their workplaces is increasing. We’ve witnessed CEOs continue their extreme efforts to protect their profits over raising wages for working people. All while doing everything in their power to prevent democratized and dignified workplaces.

Corporations have made it clear they don’t care what is legal or what labor law dictates for decent working conditions. They are hellbent on breaking laws to prevent workers from having a say in their workplace.

Meanwhile, widespread support for unions is the highest in decades and workers across industries are organizing more than ever.

We are at a critical turning point in the labor movement. Workers in all sectors are standing in solidarity together against an exploitative, unjust economic system that steals, lies, and sends our workforce into poverty while CEOs add another yacht to their collections.

What does standing in solidarity with workers mean?

  • Don’t cross picket lines!

  • Show up to support striking workers on the picket line.

  • Sign petitions of support for fair contracts & union negotiations.

  • Talk with friends and neighbors about the importance of dignified jobs.

Solidarity is a verb - and we must act in solidarity to secure a better future for all working people.

Are you ready to show up in solidarity with these workers? Add your name to our solidarity pledge here.
