SCOTUS and CEOs continue attacks on workers
What’s going on? A Starbucks in Memphis fired workers who were leading an effort to unionize their workplace. A court declared that action illegal and ordered the workers reinstated, but Starbucks appealed the decision all the way to the Supreme Court, which decided that it should be harder for a court to order reinstatement.
HISTORIC UAW WIN OPENS THE FLOODGATES FOR ORGANIZING IN THE SOUTH
On Friday, August 19, Tennessee workers won their union in a resounding watershed victory. After two heartbreaking union elections at the Chattanooga Volkswagen plant in 2014 and 2019, the votes have been tallied for a third, worker-led campaign to unionize the Volkswagen plant with the United Auto Workers. Workers overwhelmingly voted YES to join UAW. Despite facing interference from anti-worker politicians, workers in Chattanooga have made history.
Stand Up 2.0: UAW’s new wave of organizing
UAW revealed on Wednesday, November 29 that they are expanding organizing efforts to twelve new auto companies, including companies in the union-hostile south. Dubbed “Stand Up 2.0”, these unionizing campaigns will reflect the same bold and innovative strategy used to win big at the Big Three just weeks ago.
Holding the line, then and now
While we’re reminded of the GM strike of 2019 during this current 2023 contract fight, there is something different about this moment. It’s only been weeks since the Teamsters negotiated and won the end-of-tier systems and converted 15,000 part-time positions into 7,500 full-time jobs at UPS. Not only are major wins possible, the community believes it too.
UAW on strike!
United Auto Workers are on strike at the Big Three (Ford, Stellantis, and General Motors). This is a historic moment for auto workers and their communities, and the first time all three companies have forced simultaneous strikes. Workers at Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis are unified in their demands and wielding their collective power to “stand up” and strike!

Today, UPS Teamsters members secured the most groundbreaking tentative agreement for workers in the history of UPS.
